Course Description: This program is designed to provide emergency management personnel (planners) with the ability to write comprehensive emergency management plans in concert with Federal, State, local and tribal plans.

Course Prerequisites: FEMA IS-235 & IS-800

G-289: Public Information Officer Awareness

Course Description: The Public Information Officer Awareness Course (G-289) is designed to acquaint participants with the concepts underlying the PIO role. Taken alone, this course can provide a basic understanding of the PIO function for those new to the position. Additionally, this training is a prerequisite and foundation for more advanced training that takes participants from the awareness level to the mastery level in their public information careers.

G-290: Basic Public Information Officers Course

2-Day Course

Course Date(s) & Times: Saturday, December 18, 2021 & Sunday, December 19, 2021- both days 8:00 am until 5:00 pm (0800hrs-1700hrs)

Course Description: Public information consists of the processes, procedures, and systems to communicate timely, accurate and accessible information to affected audiences. Armed with good information, people are empowered to make better decisions and thus contribute to the overall response goal of saving lives and protecting property. Personal tasked with gathering, verifying, coordinating, and disseminating public information at the federal, state, tribal, local and territorial levels bear this considerable responsibility concurrently with other job assignments. These Public Information Officers (PIOs) must be provided with the opportunity to learn and practice the skills they will use on the job.

The Basic Public Information Officer Course (G0290) is designed to provide participants with the opportunity to start applying basic concepts underlying the Public Information Officer (PIO) role. This course can provide a basic understanding of the PIO function for those new to the position.

Course Prerequisites: FEMA IS Courses: IS-0100.c, IS-0702.a, IS-0909, & IS-0029.a
