Special Course Note: This course is one of four (4) courses within the TEEX Infrastructure Disaster Management Certification Program. All 4 of these courses are scheduled to be hosted at the Northampton County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during 2024. The three (3) other courses and their scheduled dates are:

  • Disaster Management for Water & Wastewater Utilities – MGT343 (held on February 7th & 8th)

  • Disaster Preparedness for Healthcare Organizations within the Community Infrastructure – MGT-341 (held on April 2nd & 3rd)

  • Disaster Management of Public Services – MGT-317 (held on May 14th & 15th)

*Attendees DO NOT have to attend all four (4) of the courses however, if attendees DO COMPLETE all 4 of the Critical Infrastructure Disaster Management courses they are then eligible to apply for the Infrastructure Disaster Management Certificate. Recipients will receive a 10×13 certificate of Professional Recognition suitable for framing. There is no cost for the program.

Course Description: The Disaster Management for Electric Power Systems course provides students with information specific to preparing for, protecting against, responding to, recovering from, and mitigating against a threatened or actual natural disaster, an act of terrorism, or other man-made disaster affecting electric power facilities and systems.

During this course, participants will be guided through discussions and exercise that will assist them in:

  • Improving security against physical damage, organizational disruption, and control system vulnerability

  • Enhancing the electric power systems ability to plan, prevent, detect, respond, and restore their facilities in emergency situations

  • Developing an understanding and appreciation for working with the media

Target Audience: The participant audience includes any agency that may respond to a major emergency, disaster or event, including:

  • Fire Department  Responders

  • Law Enforcement Officials

  • Medical Professionals

  • Emergency Management Agencies

  • Military Organizations

  • Hazardous Materials Responders

  • Immigration and Naturalization

  • Environmental Agencies

  • Border Patrol

  • Canine Handlers

  • Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearm Agents

  • Volunteer Responders with CERT, Red Cross, Disaster Relief, Animal Rescue, etc. 

  • Other organizations with search capabilities

Additional Information / Notes: Prior to course delivery, the hosting jurisdiction for the class shall inform all participants of the FEMA requirement to establish a FEMA Student Identification Number (SID). This can be accomplished by registering at FEMA’s website. Participants will be asked to provide their SID when they arrive and complete the registration process for the course.

TEEX states that a photo identification shall be available for each participant the first day of the class. See the Participant Handbook for TEEX approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example, a field exercise that cannot be missed.

The class is funded by the Department of Homeland Security/Federal Emergency Management Agency (DHS/FEMA) and is provided on-site for eligible jurisdictions throughout the United States.
