COURSE DESCRIPTION: Providing training for First Responders that respond to releases or potential releases of hazardous substances as part of the initial response for the purpose of protecting nearby persons, property and the environment. Personnel are trained to respond in a defensive fashion to contain the release from a safe distance, to keep it from spreading and prevent exposures. They must understand basic hazard and risk assessment, how to select and use proper personal protective equipment, basic hazardous materials terms, basic control, containment and/or confinement operations within the capabilities of the resources and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) available, basic documentation procedures and termination procedures.
MANDATORY PREREQUISITES:

Must be at least 16 years old at start of class.

Must have successfully passed either Hazardous Materials Awareness (HMA) course or a Hazardous MAterials Operations (HMAR) course.
RECOMMENDED PREREQUISITES: None listed.
CLASS LOCATION(S):

Lecture & testing shall be held at the Northampton County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) located at 100 Gracedale Avenue, Nazareth, PA 18064. (NC EOC DIRECTIONS)

Skills shall be held at the Northampton County Fire School (NCFS) located at 6 Nagys Hill Road, Bangor, PA 18013. (NCFS DIRECTIONS)
